Website article: slowdownstupid.niobe132004.net/crashes/fatal/20070627-russia-five-die-in-street-racing-crash.phpIn watching this video again today (and finally getting the date for it!), I am still saddened by this senseless waste of lives. The driver of the BMW obviously lost control, and just as obviously, was being an idiot in the first place by accepting the filming car's challenge. The filming car had two idiots in it, already travelling above the speed limit, then laying down a challenge. This is why the saying "speed kills" is said. Speed was an obvious factor in this crash, and what's worse than that they took the three of themselves out, they also took out two innocent people who were just minding their own business, doing their job. Those of you who are street-racers who happen upon this: Don't bother telling me good street-racers don't make mistakes and crash. Look at professional race-car drivers who've been doing it for decades, and still manage to crash and burn on the track. If those race-car drivers, who are professionally trained, can die on an official track, where the unexpected is less likely to happen then on the open road, then so can you. Things can go wrong, sometimes horribly wrong. And the innocents on the road with you, or watching, are always in the line of fire, as clearly evidenced by this video. - Niobe.
